As the inhabitants of this modern world move into a new millenium, age-old cultural and musical traditions seem to be difficult to preserve. Luckily,the music and traditions of the Gnawa are thriving in Hassan Hakmoun. "Life Around The World," an album of live performances, has been specifically remastered for international release. Previously available only at live shows and in a small section of the United States, the album includes several never-released tracks.

Track 8, "Amontay," an uptempo powerhouse of rhythm, combines the sintir, djembe, and a drum kit with quakabeb (large metal castanets) and guitar. The opening track, "Live" features late jazz great Don Cherry on melodica & vocals. Each track, whether contemplative or feverish, is a beautiful showcase of Hassan Hakmoun's vocal stylings and sintir playing.
