On "Patriarca,"
Flamenco guitarist Miguel Angel Cortés displays his musical versatility,
technical prowess and emotional depth through compositions of his own
creation. He works within the traditional forms of tangos, bulerías,
rumbas, jaleos, siguirillas, tanguillos, and tarantas, creating
a modern, sophisticated sound through the addition of non-traditional
instruments from around the world such as tabla, darbuka, congas, and
saxophone.
Cortés is traditional in
his approach while still being an active participant in the exciting,
ongoing evolution of Spanish guitar music. On "Patriarca," Miguel Angel is
joined by his brother Paco
(palmas); Chonchi Heredia,
Raquel Enamorado,
Marina Heredia
(vocals); Agustín Carrillo
(flute, saxophone); Chico Fargas
(cajón, congas, drums); J.A. Galicia
(tabla, darbuka); Miguel Corral
(guitar); Carlos Vázquez
(bass); María Teresa Zurita
(violin); and Antonio Molina
(cello).
"To me, it is more important to feel the pain with
sensibility when playing flamenco, because anyone can achieve technical
speed by rehearsing 12 hours a day."
-- Miguel Angel Cortés
